How many times have you baked a cake at home without giving it that custom-decorated touch? Usually, when I bake a cake at home, I just coat it with some store-bought frosting and call it a day. Now, if you are curious on how to decorate a cake or just want to try something new and fun, I suggest going to a cake decorating class. However, if you’re not much of a baker, don’t worry because there will be no baking just decorating. I went to my first cake decorating class instructed by Cake’n’Bake Creations. Cake’n’Bake Creations is a Black-owned creative designing and baking business located in Columbus, Ohio. In recent months, this business has been running a series of cake-decorating classes.
Every tool necessary is already provided by Cake’n’Bake Creations for a smooth and sweet experience. The cake and frosting are already made and ready for designing by the time you arrive. This experience was completely hands-on with so much creative freedom. One of the first things I did was choose a color I would like for my first batch of frosting. From there, I got the experience of learning how to plate a two-layer cake. I will say the hardest part for me was learning how to smooth out the frosting on the cake. But don’t worry and be self-conscious of how perfect the cake will look. It is an experience to try and learn something new. Plus, you will have help so if it doesn’t look the way you want or expect that’s not a problem. Once I finished smoothing my frosting onto my cake the best I could, it was time to pick a second color for my second batch of frosting. This step is optional, but I chose to do another color anyway. My first batch of frosting I decided to color was orange. So, I decided to give it complementary color and have my second batch be blue for decorating. The class was also given the option to use piping practice sheets. Using those sheets, I learned different styles of piping on a cake. This part looks much easier than done but, it was still fun to see what I would come up with in the moment because I had no idea what I was going to do. The last decorating segment was the most fun for me. There was an abundance of decorations to choose from. In the end, I was satisfied and proud of my cake. Not only did I find it cute but delicious.

If you’ve been wanting to try something creative or break out of your comfort zone in Columbus, this class is for you. It offers the perfect mix of relaxation, creativity, and socializing. Throughout the class, I noticed myself getting to know the owner and other participants, all in a space that felt welcoming and fun.
